Improvements continue on northern highways

Fifty-nine projects in Northeastern Ontario are nearing completion, improving safety, keeping traffic moving and creating greater economic opportunities and 3,140 construction-related jobs in the region.

A total of 459 kilometres of highways are being repaved and expanded and 56 bridges are being built or repaired.

Key projects include:

• Expanding a new 17-kilometre four-lane section of Highway 69 from Parry Sound to Highway 559;

• Expanding Highway 11 from Sundridge to South River;

• Replacing the Frederick House Bridge near Cochrane;

• Improving Highway 11 through Temagami;

• Improving Highway 6 on Manitoulin Island;

• Reconstructing the Highway 17 Bypass southeast of Sudbury;

• Improving sections of Highway 144 south of Timmins.

These projects are part of the Open Ontario plan to create jobs and improve Ontario’s infrastructure.
