Schultz tells students making it is all about hard work

North Bay’s Kloe Schultz paid a visit to Chippewa Intermediate Secondary School Wednesday to share her experiences on her journey to becoming one of the top 22 dancers on So You Think You Can Dance Canada.

Schultz made it this season by beating out thousands of dancers from across Canada, but it didn't come without challenges. She tried out for the show three times before making it to the top 22 dancers, and she told the students making it to that point and carrying on to the top 14 took hard work, perseverance and determination.

Following the question and answer period Schultz led a dance workshop with members of the Raider Dance Company and the grade9/10 dance students.

Dance student Katrina Langevin says having Schultz in for the workshop was all inspiring.

“I think it is incredible, like just watching her and then actually having her in front of us was just kind of surreal.”

“I learned a lot, just to have her here and to have all different styles like what she learned I'm sure she put them into that today and I just tried my hardest.”

Fellow dance student Melanie Deibel, who assisted Schultz and Justin De Bernardi with their summer dance school Dynamic Dance Workshop Company, had the opportunity to show Schultz the dance she is working on to honour her father who suffers with a mental illness. She says having the ability to work with Schultz has allowed her to develop confidence as well as expressing her emotions without words.

“She teaches us confidence and feelings.”

“She was my inspiration for this (my) dance that I created cause she taught me how to do feelings and go right through your hands and every body part has an emotion and use everything.”

While Schultz refuses to predict who will win the So You Think You Can Dance Canada crown, she does say it was an honour to have been in the company of a great group of talented dancers.
