Know someone who is dedicated to the health of the environment in our watershed? Nominations are now being accepted by the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) for the 39th annual Dorothy Walford Memorial and Ward Smith Environmental Youth Awards today.

Residents in the region are invited to nominate individuals or organizations who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to environmental and/or conservation causes within their local community. In addition to the award, this year's recipients will also have $500 donated on their behalf to the school, environmental organization or community group of their choice.

"Even the smallest conservation effort can make a big difference to the environment. These awards are an opportunity to recognize the people who are contributing to a healthy environment," explains Brian Tayler, General Manager of the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority. "The $500 donation to another worthwhile organization will simply spread the recipient's contribution to the community and the environment even further."

The deadline for nominations is October 29, 2010 and an awards ceremony is scheduled for late November. All individuals or organizations nominated will receive a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the NBMCA. Nomination packages are available at the NBMCA and more information and a list of previous recipients can be obtained by calling (705) 474-5420 or on the website at www.nbmca.on.ca.

The NBMCA's annual awards are made possible through the generous support of the Foster Wild Environmental Fund.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) was founded in 1972 by the Province of Ontario and the NBMCA's 10 member municipalities. A non-profit organization, the NBMCA works closely with the public to ensure the environmental health of the region's watershed. The NBMCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities who are members of Conservation Ontario.
