More Q&A than debate for mayoral candidates

Voters had the opportunity hear from the three candidates running for mayor Tuesday night as they squared off during the Meet the Candidates Debate live on the local cable channel.

The hour and a half show, produced by the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce, featured questions submitted by chamber members asked by host Scott Clark, questions from a panel of local reporters and questions from viewers who called into the station. Mayoral hopefuls Valerie Chadbourne, Al McDonald and Harvey Villneff fielded questions on a wide array of subjects that ranged from doctor recruitment, taxes, job creation and tourism marketing. With no jabs tossed by any of the candidates and only two phone lines for the public to call in on, the debate turned out to be a quiet question and answer period that offered an opportunity for all three to clarify their platforms.

Meanwhile, the Trustee Candidate Debate goes Wednesday evening October 6th @ Chippewa Intermediate/Secondary School. The meet and greet starts at 6pm with questions from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

The 26 candidates running for council square off Thursday night at St. Joseph – Scollard Hall in the Bishop Carter Auditorium. There will be an informal meet and greet for the candidates in the lobby at 6 pm followed by the the formal part of the evening at 7pm.

The Municipal election is Monday, October 25, 2010.
