Board members and staff of the Children’s Aid Society of Nipissing and Parry Sound were joined by guests and dignitaries Friday as they officially launched their Children and Youth Opportunities Fund.

The project, in partnership with the Lakers hockey club, is an effort to raise funds to help the agency provide equal access to opportunities for children and youth in their care. Executive Director Gisele Hebert, says a number of the kids don't live up to their full potential because they don't have the same advantages as others when it comes to extra curricular activities.

“For example we are looking and really focusing on recreation on education and on other special projects that kids in our community might like,” she explains.

“So really looking at trying to provide kids with opportunities so they can reach their full potential.”

The local agency team will be at Northgate Shopping Centre handing out special butterfiles for a donation all weekend long. Following the mall display donations can be made online or at the CAS Office on McIntyre Street West.

This year's goal is to raise $30,000 and that go to will help 40 area children.
