Action that peeled the pavement off East Side Mario’s parking lot was the name of the game at the 8th Annual Power Play for Easter Seals Kids presented by Pembridge Insurance Company this past Sunday.

In an amazing show of community support, nine teams played ball hockey to help score $15,303.92 for children, youth and young adults with physical disabilities.

The Top Fundraising Team, Ladies In Flight, with their coach, Cory Potter, an Easter Seals youth, won top honors again raising an amazing $3,049.92, and the Tournament Champions were The Jaegerbombers ousting longtime defending champions, the North Bay Fire Department, in this year’s finals. Easter Seals child Neil Melnyk with Easter Seals past ambassador Ashlee Dagenais were on hand to cheer on the teams.

“It was a great day for Easter Seals kids, and the teams, sponsors and volunteers made it all possible,” says Roxanne Kneer, Development Officer, Northeastern Region, for Easter Seals Ontario.

Easter Seals Ontario was founded in 1922 with a vision to create a better life for children and youth with physical disabilities. Since then, Easter Seals has been providing financial assistance for essential mobility equipment and communication devices, such as walkers, wheelchairs, porch lifts and ramps to families who require additional help and support in raising a child with a physical disability. Easter Seals also owns and operates two fully accessible summer camps and provides funding for children and youth with physical disabilities to attend other recreational programs.
