Today, nine teams in North Bay will face off in a 4-on-4 street hockey tournament, to raise money for Easter Seals Ontario.

Power Play, Easter Seals’ pledge-based fundraiser, will be held at East Side Mario’s from 11 am to 4 pm. Both players and spectators will enjoy a day of hockey, great food, family activities (face painting, magician) and loads of camaraderie. The unique high-energy event has raised over $2 million province-wide since its inception.

We were so impressed with how participants and the communities rallied together to make all of the Power Play events such a tremendous success that we couldn’t wait to throw our support behind Easter Seals again this year,” said Bob Tisdale, President and COO of Pembridge Insurance Company. “Easter Seals’ Power Play is a great event that is going to benefit those who need it most and Pembridge is extremely proud to be a part of the team.”

As an added twist, Power Play encourages a light-hearted and creative environment. Teams compete for the prestigious ‘Spirit Award’ recognizing the most creatively dressed team, where hockey equipment can be anything from briefcases to fire hose to umbrellas for goalies trying to block shots. In addition, the top fundraising team will have their photos in the community newspaper. Many other prizes and awards will be vied for as well.

“This event is a really great way to build team spirit,” says Roxanne Kneer, Development Officer with Easter Seals. “Everyone always has a great time, and they can feel good knowing it supports a worthy cause.”

Easter Seals Ontario was founded in 1922 with a vision to create a better life for children and youth with physical disabilities. Since then, Easter Seals has been providing financial assistance for essential mobility equipment and communication devices, such as walkers, wheelchairs, porch lifts and ramps to families who require additional help and support in raising a child with a physical disability. Easter Seals also owns and operates two fully accessible summer camps and provides funding for children and youth with physical disabilities to attend other recreational programs.
