Students in the Almaguin region will soon be able to enjoy a brand new high school!

Construction has begun on the New Almaguin Highlands Secondary School. Students who are currently in grade seven will be the first class in the new building located just north of the current site between South River and Sundridge.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for communities in the Almaguin area to create a school that serves as not only an education facility, but also as a multipurpose community hub. With this in mind, ACCESS 2011, has been working in cooperation with the Near North District School Board on several enhancement initiatives:

• Retractable seating (approx. 360 seats) in the cafeteria/auditorium
• Recreation Trails - biking, hiking, skiing
• Upgraded and Modern Shop Equipment.

At this time, volunteers are needed in a variety of capacities. In order to provide an update on the status of the school build, and to engage further community members in the projects currently underway, ACCESS 2011 will hold a:

Public Meeting on Wednesday September 29, 7:00 pm at Almaguin Highlands Secondary School in the Highlander Room.
