It is the start to another great year at Canadore College. Preliminary numbers indicate that the College's international enrolment is up an impressive 42 per cent over last year and that apprenticeship figures have experienced a boost of approximately 23 per cent. Overall, Canadore College's initial report shows a postsecondary enrolment increase of 1.2 per cent for the 2010 Fall Semester.

The year kicked off with residence move-in activities on Labour Day weekend. The College grounds were teaming with excited students anxious to begin focusing on their academic careers.

"I really like my program a lot. I'm very much into the advertising field. I researched other schools, but they didn't have exactly what I was looking for, and Canadore did. The advertising program here at the College has a little bit of everything, so I have more options available to me," said Chloe Ireland, first-year Advertising - Creative Media student from Burks Falls, Ontario.

Canadore College is proud to be an institution committed to student success. This year, various activities were planned to help students transition into their new college life. Student-led frosh activities included the Shinerama campaign to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis research, which raised a record-breaking $25,500. The College also held its Summer Transition and Orientation Program, designed for students with learning disabilities.

"All orientation activities at Canadore College are designed to support a unique educational experience," explained Shawn Chorney, Acting Vice President of Student Services and Human Resources. "Our personalized approach to each student as an individual learner with specific goals supports our philosophy of student success through innovation in service delivery. At Canadore every student matters."

Katherine Danielli of Campbellville, Ontario, is enrolled in the Theatre Arts program. She partook in Summer Transition and said she enjoyed the head start in today's competitive marketplace.

"I have Asperger Syndrome, which is a form of Autism. So, this outdoors area is perfect for me. It's quiet, and there's not a lot of noise. Classroom sizes are small, which is preferable for what I have. It's a great college," she said.

This year 1,900 new students joined 1,200 returning students at the College. Canadore is honoured to be the college of choice for so many students as they seek to acquire the skills they need to obtain meaningful employment.
