On Friday 40 Medical Students and Residents toured the new North Bay Regional Health Centre as part of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine's (NOSM) Royal College Speciality Resident Retreat being held in the city.

2nd Year Family Medicine Resident Dr. Chris Cathers says while touring the health centre today, he was impressed by how bright and inviting the building is. "Seeing the new hospital today reinforced my decision to live and work in North Bay," Dr. Cathers says.

Psychiatry Resident Dr. Carole Tessier says she is excited to see the range of services that will be offered in one site. "I look forward to continuing my specialty training here," Dr. Tessier added.

This is the first time North Bay has hosted the Royal College Speciality Resident Retreat. North Bay and District Hospital's Medical Affairs Recruitment Liaison Officer Kristen Honeysett-Vaughan says this is an exciting opportunity to showcase everything North Bay has to offer.

"Hosting over 40 medical residents and medical students from NOSM in our community at one time gives us the opportunity to show off both our new hospital and city," Honeysett-Vaughn explains. "We are also excited to provide them all with the opportunity to speak with our physicians and our home based Residents and Medical Students about living and working in North Bay."

This weekend's participants include Residents from Family Medicine, Community Medicine, Anesthesia, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Orthopedics, General Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology along with 3rd & 4th year NOSM medical students

NBDH's Community Partners include RBC Royal Bank, Grant Thornton, Lucenti, Orlando & Ellies, LLP and the City of North Bay.

"Access to healthcare professionals continues to be extremely important in each of our communities and as a long time supporter of health care in Ontario, RBC is committed to doing what we can as a corporate citizen to facilitate this access," says RBC Regional Vice President for the North Central Region, Lauri Petz.

This weekend's retreat is one of many Physician Recruitment and Retention initiatives this group has worked together on.
