City man charged following criminal harassment investigation

North Bay - Charges have been laid in a criminal harassment investigation stemming from a 2005 sexual assault investigation and subsequent court case. North Bay Police Service requested Ontario Provincial Police assistance with the investigation and the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch was assigned to the case.

During the course of the investigation, in addition to criminal harassment evidence, it was determined that an individual had covertly taped local court proceedings and publicized information contrary to a court ordered publication ban.

Michael LINKIE, age 50 of North Bay, Ontario has been charged with the following:

• Two counts of Criminal Harassment, contrary to Section 264(2)( c)(i) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

• One count of Fail to Comply with Non Publication Order, contrary to Section 486.6(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

• Two offences of Videotaping Court Proceedings, contrary to Section 136(4) of the Courts of Justice Act

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled for a bail hearing on Thursday, September 16 at 10:00am at the North Bay Provincial Court House, 360 Plouffe Street, North Bay, Ontario.

The investigation is ongoing under the direction of Detective Inspector Guy Faucher, OPP Criminal Investigation Branch with the assistance of the Northeast Regional Criminal Operations.
