Suspect flees police Update

CALVIN TOWNSHIP – An overnight search ended on Sunday, August 29, 2010 after police received what was initially a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17 in East Ferris Township.

At the time of the investigation, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene heading into the bush towards Boundary Road, Calvin Township. A loaded firearm was located in the front seat of the vehicle. However, there was no indication the male was armed or that there was a concern for public safety at the time.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 29, 2010, a Mattawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed an individual matching the suspect’s description running into the bush area of Boundary Road in Calvin Township.

OPP officers with the North Bay Detachment cluster, North East Region Emergency Response Team, Canine Units, Central Region Tactical Response Unit as well as the OPP Helicopter attended the location and contained the area. Shortly after 12 noon, the suspect was apprehended with the assistance of the Canine Unit and members of the Emergency Response Team.

Jeffrey M. LAMARRE, 27, of North Bay, Ontario has been charged with:

Impaired Operation s. 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Ammunition s. 86(1) CC;
Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose s. 88 CC;
Unauthorized Possession of Firearm s. 91(1) CC;
Unauthorized Possession of Weapon s. 91(2) CC;
Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm/ammunition s. 95(a) CC;
Possession of Weapon Obtained by Crime s. 96 (a) CC; and with
Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 in Canada s. 354(1) (a) CC

LAMARRE is being held for a bail hearing scheduled in North Bay on Monday, August 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.

CALVIN TOWNSHIP - Mattawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at approximately 6:55 p.m.

The complaint was of a possible impaired driver travelling eastbound on Highway 17 in East Ferris Township. The vehicle was subsequently located by a Mattawa OPP officer in Calvin Township. The driver fled the scene heading into the bush towards Boundary Road, Calvin Township.

Further investigation revealed the individual had in his possession a loaded firearm which was located in the front seat of the vehicle.

As a result, officers from the North Bay Detachment cluster, the North East Region Emergency Response Team, Canine units, Highway Safety Division, an OPP Helicopter and the Central Region Tactical Response Unit attended and searched for the male subject.

There is no indication the male is armed or that there is a concern for public safety at this time.
