On Sunday September 26, 2010, from 10 am to 6 pm, the parking lot of East Side Mario’s on Lakeshore Drive will transform into a street hockey stadium for the 8th Annual Power Play for Easter Seals Kids. This fundraising event features street hockey players from local businesses and corporate teams that fundraise and compete in support of the community’s kids with physical disabilities.

The day is filled with excitement for players and spectators alike. Some of the event’s highlights include the ‘spirit award’ for the best team themed costumes, a skills contest, a silent auction, face painting, and many more fun activities. In addition, the top fundraising team and tournament winners will get their photos in the community newspaper. To qualify, each team must raise a minimum of $600 in pledges.

“There are so many reasons to organize a Power Play team,” says Roxanne Kneer, Development Officer with Easter Seals Ontario. “It’s a great way for companies to build team spirit and morale while at the same time helping kids with physical disabilities. It truly is a win-win event!”

Money raised goes towards funding essential equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, and communication devices, providing summer camping experiences at Easter Seals camps, and funding Recreational Choices such as day camps, swimming and art classes. Since 1999, Power Play has raised over $2 million for Easter Seals kids.

Easter Seals Ontario was founded in 1922 with a vision to create a better life for children and youth with physical disabilities. Since then, Easter Seals has been providing financial assistance for essential mobility equipment and communication devices, such as walkers, wheelchairs, porch lifts and ramps to families who require additional help and support in raising a child with a physical disability. Easter Seals also owns and operates two fully accessible summer camps and provides funding for children and youth with physical disabilities to attend other recreational programs.
