On Friday August 20, Pete Palangio Arena was closed as a precaution due to a suspected mould problem. Test results were received on Sunday August 22 indicating normal/acceptabe levels of the commonly known mould referred to as Cladosporium, within the lobby, viewing area, board room, office and arena surfaces.

As this mould is visible within the facility’s dressing rooms, these rooms will be removed from service and sealed off. Cleanup of dressing rooms will commence immediately and will remain out of service until clean up is complete.

Pete Palangio Arena will be reopened on Monday August 23. Temporary dressing room facilities will be provided and user groups are being asked to come to the arena dressed. On going monitoring and testing will take place throughout the cleanup.

City staff is preparing to install ice at West Ferris Arena on Monday August 23 and should be available within a week. The original plan called for ice at West Ferris on September 11. Memorial Gardens’ ice has been installed and is in service as of Sunday August 22 and some user groups will be accommodated at the Gardens.
