Tornado watch in effect for the area

North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa and West Nipissing - French River areas.

As of 7:05 PM EDT Sunday 15 August 2010, Environment Canada continued the following Tornado watch for
North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa and West Nipissing - French River areas.

Conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms early this evening and some of these severe thunderstorms are capable of producing brief tornadoes.

This is an alert to the potential development of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds.

Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements. If threatening weather approaches..Take immediate safety precautions.

Warm and humid air is creating very unstable conditions over the regions. Conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms. The main threats are damaging winds, large hail and torrential rainfall. Some of the storms are capable of producing tornadoes.
