Georgetown man arrested following fatal MVC on Hwy 17 UPDATE

West Nipissing – On Sunday August 15 shortly before 2:53am a minivan was westbound on Highway 17 near Verner. The van crossed the eastbound lane and rolled in the ditch on the south side of the highway. There were three male occupants in van at the time of the crash. The driver and one passenger, who were wearing their seatbelts, did not sustain any injuries. The third male occupant was ejected. He was pronounced dead at West Nipissing Hospital. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver, 48 year old Hank Van Goch of Georgetown was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death, contrary to section 255(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada. He was also charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – No licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The investigation is being conducted by members of the Warren and Noëlville OPP Detachments with the assistance of OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators.

Traffic on highway 17 was restricted. The Highway is now fully reopened.

The deceased has been identified as 41 year old Hannah Nelson of Guelph.
