Ontario's Attorney General Chris Bentley played Robin Hood today while visiting North Bay Police Service headquarters on Princess Street Wednesday. Bentley announced the service was successful with their grant application to the Civil Remedies Grant Program.

Bentley says the grant program is modeled in the theory of Robin Hood as it takes the money and assets out of the hands of criminals and is given to the good guys to help continue with their prevention efforts.

The North Bay Police Service is receiving $47,428 to purchase specialized GPS equipment and a wireless video camera system to enhance the ability to conduct technical surveillance when monitoring higher risk areas.

Watch:

Minister Bentley notes that since November 2003, $13.3 million has been forfeited to the Crown under provincial civil forfeiture law.

As well civil forfeiture proceeds have funded approximately $1.2 million in compensation to direct victims of unlawful activity and $5.7 million in grants to law enforcement agencies from funds remaining after victims have been compensated.
