WHAT: Temporary Exhibit, British Home Children

WHEN: Tuesday August 17, 2010 through Sunday August 28 2010

WHERE: Discovery North Bay Museum – 100 Ferguson St.

BRIEF: 2010 has been designated as Year of the British Home Child in Canada. It commemorates the child emigration scheme that brought over 100,000 children from Britain to Canada from 1869 to 1948.

It is estimated that today, four million Canadians are the descendants of British Home Children and that most of them are not aware of the connection. Efforts are now being made by various groups and individuals to re-establish the lost heritage of millions of Canadians.

Discovery North Bay will house a quilt commemorating the British Home Children and – This is the first time the quilt has travelled to Ontario, and we are excited to share it with the community. Drop by between August 17 and 28 to see the quilt and other displays in honour of this moment in Canada’s past.
