Missing boater located

Lake Nipissing - North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Underwater Search and Recovery Unit as well as the OPP Helicopter were on scene today continuing their search for Andrew WEDZINGA, 54 years old of Thorndale, Ontario.

Shortly before 1:00 p.m., WEDZINGA's body was located by a boater in the South Bay area of Lake Nipissing. Mr. WEDZINGA and his wife, Helen, had been out boating on Saturday, July 17, 2010 when the lake conditions worsened and both went overboard just a few hundred metres from shore.

Andrew WEDZINGA was not wearing a life jacket at the time he fell out of his boat. Helen WEDZINGA could not maintain control of the boat and was subsequently thrown out. Helen WEDZINGA was wearing her lifejacket and able to swim to a place of safety and call out for help. She was rescued by family members who had been out on their sea-doo and were returning home.

At the time of the incident, winds were gusting from the west to northwest at approximately 40 - 60 km/h with waves of approximately 0.5 metres.
