Astorville - Good news stories aren’t easy to find. But there will be smiles all around during the annual Kids Fishing Tournament on Saturday July 10, hosted by the Nosbonsing Get Outdoors Club & Nosbonsing Anglers & Hunters.

Children will be joining local police officers at The Government Dock on Big Moose Road from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm for some fishing fun, great prizes and giveaways. To qualify for a $50 gift card, children are asked to register by July 1.

Participants can look forward to free barbequed hotdogs and refreshments, as well as prizes for everyone, including a trophy for the Overall Biggest Fish.

This event is part of the Canada-wide celebration National Fishing Week, July 3rd through 11th. To learn more, visit www.catchfishing.com.

Also July 3rd to 11th: the annual Ontario Family Fishing Week. For one full week, Canadian residents can enjoy the fun of fishing in Ontario without the need of a licence!

The event in Norwich is sponsored by Fishing Forever, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding worthwhile fishing, conservation and education projects. It is also supported by the Police Association of Ontario and Canadian Tire.

According to Bob Izumi, chair of Fishing Forever, there is nothing that puts a smile on a kid’s face faster than catching a fish. “That’s why I love to create opportunities for children and families to go fishing,” states Izumi. “Fishing is one of the very best ways for parents and other adults to establish productive and healthy relationships with children.”
