The North Bay Métis Council launched their new brand identity, and announced their progress on the development of a cultural map and community inventory, thanks to a $149,500 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The Hon. Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing, joined OTF representative Mary Lou Arrowsmith in congratulating the North Bay Métis Council at the announcement ceremony.

“I’m delighted to join the North Bay Métis Council to help celebrate this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant,” said Nipissing MPP Monique Smith. “Learning about our Métis heritage is one of the best ways to ensure preservation of the Métis culture.”

The OTF grant was used to develop a new brand identity, a map of the Métis cultural heritage, and an inventory of the Métis history, culture and traditions in the area. “This grant will help us better engage with Métis people, and reconnect them with their roots,” said Community Mapping Chair Mel Jamieson. “We are thankful for the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s commitment to heritage and culture in our community.”

The North Bay Métis Council provides information, advocacy and programming for Métis people in the region. It is involved in health care, education, and consultation, and is the official liaison to the Provincial and Federal government.
