Warning - there are fraudulent restaurant inspectors in the area

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit reports there are fraudulent restaurant inspectors in the area. This has been occurring across Ontario.

A local food premise was contacted by someone alleging to be a “senior public health official”. The person said they would be performing an inspection in a few days. They then requested detailed business and personal information from the restaurant owner and asked to be called back to confirm details with a unique code.

If an owner or operator of a food premise receives a phone call like this, please contact their local police department.

Quick Facts

- Routine public health inspections are usually done unannounced by Public Health Inspectors from the Health Unit.

- The Health Unit does not charge for any health inspections.
In some cases, an extensive inspection will be scheduled by public health inspectors when it will be convenient for both the operator and the inspector.
