The Near North Student Robotics Initiative will host a robotics exhibition this weekend at Northgate Shopping Centre. Located in the centre court in front of Sears, the event is the first of its kind for the team. It will feature a Robot Driver's Challenge, Lego play tables, Lego robots, larger robots and displays. The event runs Friday, June 4 from 6 p.m. and all day Saturday, June 5.

"The driver challenge is going to be a lot of fun", says team member Anthony Chartrand. Students aged 10 to 16 can sign up to play but anyone can drive the robot for fun. The driver's challenge will run Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and again Saturday at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Prizes will be given out for the winner of each competition.

"The team is more than just a robot," says teacher Judy Smith. "Students work on leadership, marketing, public speaking as well as spirit initiatives." Information on the FIRST Lego League program for students in Grades 5 - 8 as well as the FIRST Robotics Competition program for students in high school will be available. Volunteer mentors, teachers and students will be there to answer questions about the team.
