Nipissing Township – An official ceremony was held Saturday to celebrate the completion of the Wolfe Lake Road and Ski Hill Road rehabilitation projects in the Township of Nipissing. Federal and provincial infrastructure funding helped to make the projects a reality announced the Hon. Monique Smith, Ontario Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and MPP for Nipissing today. The governments of Canada and Ontario along with the Township of Nipissing have each invested up to $103,100 in the projects which totalled $309,299.

“I am pleased that residents and visitors to the Nipissing area will benefit from the improvements to Wolfe Lake Road and Ski Hill Road,” said Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing. “It is important to keep our essential infrastructure in good condition for residents and tourists alike.”

“Improvements to Nipissing’s Wolfe Lake Road and Ski Hill Road will only benefit the region’s long-term economic prosperity,” said Tony Clement, Member of Parliament for Parry Sound-Muskoka and Industry Minister. “Road improvements are just one example of our Government’s commitment to quality infrastructure in Northern Ontario.”

The new quarried granite finish on both roads will improve driving for residents. It is a safer, compact substance for the roads and is gentler on the environment as it requires less grading and upkeep.

Canada and Ontario are investing in infrastructure through the Building Canada Fund - Communities Component. The governments of Canada and Ontario are contributing two-thirds of the total eligible costs to projects including the Wolfe Lake Road and Ski Hill Road rehabilitation projects, while Ontario communities are contributing the remainder of the funds.

The Governments of Canada and Ontario are investing close to $11 billion in joint funding for more than 2,600 projects through such programs as the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, Building Canada Fund - Communities Component and Major Infrastructure Component, Knowledge Infrastructure Program and RINC/Ontario REC. These historical investments will help support job creation and strengthen Ontario's economy.
