Hundreds of red clad residents turned out to the Waterfront Friday morning to pay tribute to Canada's military men and women during the Canadian Forces Appreciation Day North Bay.

The goal of the event is aimed at heightening support for the men and women who serve the country, in Canada and abroad and the role they play in maintaining the country's safety and freedom. Red Fridays started when an email circulated in the encouraging American military spouses to wear something red on Fridays as a show of support for the deployed men and women, but the effort has grown worldwide and you can see folks sporting everything from sport t-shirts, ball caps, bracelets as well as placing signs on their lawns as a show of respect and support.

The event wrapped up with a BBQ and a fly-by from four CF-18 fighter jets.
