LITTLE CURRENT – An Ontario Provincial Police North East Region Awards Ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands Recreation Centre in Little Current on beautiful Manitoulin Island.

Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Julian Fantino made the presentations with the assistance of Chief Superintendent Scott Tod – Regional Commander, North East Region. Staff Sergeant Bruce McCullagh, Manitoulin Detachment Commander hosted the event and Superintendent Jim Szarka acted as Director of Ceremony. There were 120 guests in attendance.

An OPP Awards Ceremony honours citizens and Ontario Provincial Police members, both uniform and civilian, who have demonstrated acts of bravery, lifesaving, community service and exemplary performance of duty. Length of service is also recognized.

Wednesday’s ceremony, the first in a series of three for the North East in 2010, honoured recipients from the detachment areas of North Bay, West Parry Sound, Sudbury, Noelville, Manitoulin; North East Region Headquarters, Highway Safety Division and the Provincial Communication Centre North Bay.
