McQueen part of National Youth Ambassador Caucus

Nipissing University graduate Sharon McQueen and 99 other young Canadians will meet in Ottawa to represent their regions at the National Youth Ambassador Caucus (NYAC).
Nipissing University graduate Sharon McQueen and 99 other young Canadians will meet in Ottawa to represent their regions at the National Youth Ambassador Caucus (NYAC).
Of the 99 delegates attending, 26 (two from each province and territory) will be selected will be selected to participate in the G8/G20 Summits in June 2010.

McQueen’s role at the NYAC is to represent the Northern Ontario region, while addressing summit issues such as maternal health, food security, and nuclear proliferation.
As one of the young Ontario delegates at the Caucus, McQueen believes that "It’s easy to fall in love with Northern Ontario and be an advocate for the region because it has so mush going for it and so much potential. I'm very proud to be an ambassador for the North and promote its many attributes to the rest of Canada and the world. As well, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to connect and network with like-minded young professionals from across the nation.”

The caucus is being hosted by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and FEDNOR. Caucus delegates will meet with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other government, business and community members.

McQueen is a graduate from both Nipissing’s Bachelor of Regional Planning and International Development program and the Schulich School of Education. She was recently awarded a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship from host Rotary Club North Bay-Nipissing to represent District 7010 this fall. With the scholarship, she will be studying toward a masters degree in International Relations, Southeast Asian Studies from the National University of Singapore beginning August 2, 2010.
