As of 3:50 PM EST Saturday 08 May 2010, Environment Canada issued the following snowfall warning for for the North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa - West Nipissing - French River areas.

*****

Very late season heavy snowfall ending this evening.

Snow..Heavy at times..Continues to fall across the district this afternoon as seen on weather radar and web cameras.

While snowfall accumulations have been quite variable there has been enough to cover the ground with 5 cm on the ground at North Bay airport this afternoon.

Another 5 cm of snow is expected before the storm centre responsible for the snow and brisk northerly winds moves away over Southern Québec to the Maritimes this evening..Taking the snow with it.

Strong winds will also result in local blowing snow in areas where the mercury is hovering just below freezing.

Motorists should be prepared for dangerous winter driving conditions from nil visibility in local whiteouts from heavy snow..Blowing snow in exposed areas and snow accumulation on the roads.

As of 10:21 AM EST Saturday 08 May 2010, Environment Canada issued the following snowfall warning for for the North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa - West Nipissing - French River areas:

Very late season heavy snowfall today.

An unusually intense spring storm over Lake Huron this morning will track into Eastern Ontario this afternoon depositing a late season heavy snowfall over Northeastern Ontario.

The strong and brisk northeasterly winds have done their job in ushering in cold Arctic air..Turning all precipitation over to snow across the district.

Close to 15 cm of heavy snow will fall in a 6 to 12 hour period across North Bay and Sudbury and possibly as far north as New Liskeard by this afternoon.

Strong winds will also result in local blowing snow in areas where the mercury is hovering just below freezing.

The snow will taper off to scattered wet flurries as the storm centre moves away over Southern Québec into the Maritimes by this evening.

Motorists should be prepared for dangerous winter driving conditions from nil visibility in local whiteouts from heavy snow..Blowing snow in exposed areas and snow accumulation on the roads.
