The City of North Bay has proclaimed April 18-25th as National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week. Additionally, a Gift of Life flag will be flying outside of City Hall.

Communities throughout the province, like yours, are being asked to show their support by declaring a proclamation for increased public awareness to encourage residents to register their consent to become an organ and tissue.

The Trillium Gift of Life Network is urging Ontarians to say "yes" to organ and tissue donation during National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week - April 18-25.

Quick facts

Ø Today, there are approximately 1,600 people on the waiting list for life-saving transplants in Ontario.

Ø Only 17 per cent of Ontarians with health cards are registered as donors, which means many in need will not receive their transplants in time.

Ø One organ and tissue donor can save up to eight lives and enhance as many as 75 more.

Ø Everyone is a potential organ and tissue donor, regardless of age.
