The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit held its 2nd annual youth video competition showcase event – “MOTION 2010” - April 15th at the Capitol Centre in North Bay.

Brennan Fournier and Nathan Boutilier, two grade 12 filmakers from Widdifield Secondary School, captured the overall best picture award for their film “Waking Up”. The award came with two, $500 cheques – one to be shared by Boutilier and Fournier and another which was presented to Widdifield high school principal, Lucio Pavone, to be used for programs at the school.

The overall goal of the event, which was orchestrated by an enthusiastic group of high school peer leaders from North Bay and Parry Sound ( hired by the health unit), was to reach as many youth and students as possible in the North Bay/Parry Sound Region and to educate them on health and wellness issues that have major impacts on their lives.

On hand for the event was Dr. Jim Chirico from the health unit and Heli Vail, from the Near North District School Board, each of whom had high praise for the event in its ability to reach – in a meaningful way – such a youthful audience.

Organizers thanked the many community partners who made the event possible, including Oxford Learning, Cogeco, The Near North District School Board, The Near North Mobile Media Lab and Ontario Power Generation.

“It takes a village to raise a child”, stated Vail, during her address to the audience, “and that is just what
we’re seeing here tonight.”
