North Bay lawyer and former paddler, Geoff Laplante has been appointed as Canada's representative to the International Canoe Federation's Commonwealth Games Commission. Laplante is a former paddler, coach and volunteer with the North Bay Canoe Club.

Canada is a world power in the sport of Canoe Kayak and it has done quite well on the international scene recently - including the Olympic Games. Paddling has yet to be included in the Commonwealth Games.

It is always humbling to be recognized by your peers and to be selected as Canada's repesentative to the ICF Commission is an honor." Laplante said.

Canoe Kayak Canada's Executive Director, Lorraine Lafreniere is pleased with the selection indicating "with geoff's experience, I am sure he will be a strong contributor to the Commission".
