Cyclist in serious condition after MVC at Algonquin & Bypass Updated

After spending a week in hospital on life support a 24 year old cyclist has succumbed to his injuries. The cyclist Dan Hodges was involved in an accident at the intersection of Algonquin Avenue and the bypass April 6th.

The cyclist Dan Hodges was involved in an accident at the intersection of Algonquin Avenue and the bypass April 6th.

Reports indicate was crossing the highway from the southwest corner of the intersection when he was struck by an eastbound SUV.

At the time of the collision the woman had the right of way and traveling well below the speed limit.

North Bay OPP, North Bay Fire Department and OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving a cyclist on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at the intersection of Algonquin Avenue and Highway 11/17.

Shortly before 4 p.m., an eastbound vehicle driven by a 29 year old female of North Bay on Highway 17 collided with the cyclist. The cyclist, 24 year old male of North Bay, was crossing the intersection from the west side of Algonquin heading north. The vehicle is believed to have had the right of way when the collision occurred.

North Bay Ambulance transported the cyclist to the North Bay General Hospital where he was later transferred to Sudbury with serious critical condition.

North Bay OPP advise that as of 6:47pm Algonquin Avenue North of Bypass is open.

North Bay OPP advise that as of 4:30pm Algonquin Avenue North of Bypass is closed due to a MVC involving vehicle and bicycle.

There is no detour at the moment and the estimated duration of the advisory is unknown.
