MATTAWA – Nipissing‐Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota announced today that the Voyageur Multi Use Trail System (VMUTS) in Mattawa will benefit from $100,000 in new federal funding. “This project has been designed to help boost the local economy by creating jobs and enhancing trails for outdoor enthusiasts,” says MP Rota.

According to Mr. Rota, “By improving the trail system in and around Mattawa, and promoting all‐terrain vehicle use in the area, the goal is to bolster tourism throughout the region.”

The funding announced today will be used to build and expand the 200 km trail system in the Mattawa area. It will also be used to address all environmental concerns including water crossings and washouts.

This project is being supported through the Government of Canada’s $25 million investment in recreational trails. “This $25 million funding initiative has, for the first time in trail development history, made it possible for a growing network of multiple‐use trails to be built across Canada,” stated Terry Norman, National Coordinator for the National Trails Coalition (NTC).

MP Rota believes in the importance diversifying the local economy, and says that promoting trail assets is an excellent way of attracting more tourism to the area. According to the local MP, “By broadening Canada’s network of national trails, beginning right here in Mattawa, we
can attract countless visitors from across the country and beyond to our region.”

“Since I was first elected as a Federal Member of Parliament, I have worked in close partnership with local officials to help develop and promote the trail system in Mattawa,” says Mr. Rota.

“And while I am pleased that our hard work is paying off, I will continue to lobby the government for increased funding for the growth and maintenance of the Voyageur Multi Use Trails System.”
