Disqualified driver caught with contraband smokes

On March 15, 2010 shortly before 2:00 p.m. on Valois Drive in the town of Mattawa, an OPP officer stopped a motor vehicle as the driver was observed failing to wear his seatbelt. As a result of the traffic stop, 3 950 packages of contraband cigarettes were seized with an estimated value of over $120,000.

Gandi E. CORNELIUS, 54 years old of Southwold, Ontario was charged with:
Drive Disqualified as per s.259(4)(a) of the Criminal Code;
Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes as per s. 29(2) of the Tobacco Tax Act;
Driver, fail to properly wear seat belt s. 106(2) of the Highway Traffic Act; and
3 counts of Fail to Comply with Undertaking or Recognizance as per s. 145(3) of the Criminal Code.

CORNELIUS was held for a bail hearing in North Bay on March 16, 2010
