“What does your Canada look like in 2017?” That is the question that Nipissing‐Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota will be putting forward to constituents during an upcoming town hall meeting on the environment.

“This coming Saturday, I am inviting individuals, groups, organizations, and municipal leaders from throughout Nipissing‐Timiskaming to join in an open discussion about the future of our riding and our country,” says Mr. Rota.

The town hall meeting, which is being held on Saturday, March 20th from 10:00AM – 12:00noon in the North Bay Public Library Auditorium, is one of several events being planned across Canada in the lead‐up to Canada at 150: Rising to the Challenge, a public policy conference taking place in Montreal later this month.

“We are asking local citizens to participate in a serious discussion about the major issues that will shape Canada’s future,” says Mr. Rota. “Constituents have made it clear that addressing environmental concerns should be a priority, and doing so is fundamental to building a healthy and prosperous future for our people and our communities.”

Special guest speakers at the town hall will include Dr. Dan Walters from Nipissing University, alternative energy & environmental consultant Craig Brydges, Peggy Walsh Craig from the Greater Nipissing Stewardship Council, and Richard Rowe on behalf of Nipissing First Nations.

According to Mr. Rota, “Events such as this are designed to give Canadians a chance to grapple with major long‐term issues that will determine our future well‐being and prosperity.

Participants are being asked what Canada can and should be in 2017 when we mark the country’s 150th birthday, and what needs to be done today to get there.”

Results of the town hall meeting will be presented for consideration during Canada at 150: Rising to the Challenge, a conference of non‐partisan contributors to be held in Montreal and webcast live from March 26‐28, 2010.
