There's a new academic and research VP at NipU

Nipissing University is pleased to announce that Dr. Katherine Bergman has been appointed vice-president academic and research.

Bergman’s five-year term begins July 1, 2010.

She brings 19 years of experience in university administration, teaching and research in the field of Geology. Currently, Bergman is finishing her role as special advisor to the president of the University of Regina in regards to the development of a nursing program in partnership with the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST). Previous to this, she held the position of dean of science at the University of Regina from 2001 to 2009.

Bergman began her academic career as a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Postdoctoral Fellow at McMaster University. Following that, she accepted a faculty position at the University of Regina. Her academic and professional career clearly demonstrates diverse experiences in academia particularly in science and technology disciplines. Over her career, she has been the recipient of several NSERC grants.

Bergman holds a bachelor of science degree in biology from the University of Waterloo and an master of science and a doctoral degree in Geology from McMaster University.

Throughout her career, Bergman has displayed a strong record of engagement in professional and community partnerships. She has served on a number of national boards including the Canadian Council of Deans of Science (president and past president), the Association of Canadian Universities for Research in Astronomy, the National Round Table on Economy and Environment and the Canadian Light Source. She is currently serving on the boards of the Pacific Institute of Mathematical Sciences, the Virtual Science Fair, the Canadian Council of Deans of Science and the Saskatchewan Science Centre.
