Driver faces several charges after fleeing police

Bonfield Township – On March 8, 2010 shortly after 7:30 p.m., OPP officers received a report of a possible impaired driver. The vehicle was located a short time later on Highway 17 in the Bonfield Township area.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, a Plymouth Voyageur van, but it continued into a private driveway and onwards onto a ploughed trail before exiting onto a township road in Calvin Township. The vehicle continued onto different township roads travelling at speeds of up to 80 km/h. The vehicle was blocked by cruisers where he attempted once again to flee by reversing into a parked OPP cruiser.

The driver, Barry BELLAIRE, 41 years old of Calvin Township, was arrested and charged with:

Flight from police - CC 249.1(1).
Impaired operation of a motor vehicle - CC 253(1) (a).
Exceed 80 mg - CC 253(1) (b).
Assault with a weapon - CC 267(a).
Resist arrest - CC 129(a).
Utter threats - CC 264.1(1) (a).
Open liquor in motor vehicle - LLA 32(1).
G2 driver BAC above zero - HTA O Reg 340/94 6(1) (1).

BELLAIRE was held for bail hearing in North Bay on March 9, 2010.
