Beaucage Township – A North Bay OPP officer was conducting moving radar patrol on Highway 17 when the officer observed a motor vehicle travelling westbound in excess of 150 km/h in a posted 90 km/h at approximately 1:45 a.m. this morning.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado, but it continued westbound before turning onto Riding Stable Road, a seasonal non-serviced road. Anishinabek Police Service provided assistance when the OPP cruiser became stuck. The Chevrolet Silverado pick up was located further down the road and both occupants were arrested.

Driver, Serge BRUNETTE, 25 years old of Hanmer, Ontario is charged with:
Possession Schedule II Cannabis Marihuana - under 30grams, s. 4(1) CDSA;
Dangerous Operation - Motor Vehicle, s.249(1)(a) CC;
Impaired Operation / Motor Vehicle / Alcohol, s. 253(1) (a) CC;
Exceed 80 Milligrams, s. 253(1)(b) CC;
Race a motor vehicle, s. 172(1) HTA;
Speeding 50+ Km/h over posted limit, s.128 HTA; and
Drive motor vehicle - no licence, s. 32(1) HTA.

Passenger, Robin POIRIER, 20 years old of Val Caron, Ontario is charged with:
Possession Schedule II Cannabis Marihuana - under 30g. s.4 (1) CDSA.

Both are scheduled to appear in North Bay for court on March 30, 2010.
