'One night does not define a career or a man,' Astrid Rees

Leading up to the Freestyle Men's aerials event at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics Steve Omischl's family here in North Bay opted not to talk with the media, but tonight their silence is broken as his sister Astrid Rees issued the following statement to Baytoday.

"Tonight our family is celebrating Steve and all his accomplishments over the last 12 years."

"While the outcome of the aerials final was not what everyone hoped for, one night does not define a career or a man. My brother is an exceptional athlete, but more importantly he is also an exceptional person. We are so proud of him!"

"Thanks to all those who have expressed their support for Steve and good wishes to our family over the past few weeks. We look forward to welcoming him home too!" Astrid Rees
