Three young men charged with first degree murder

M’Chigeeng – On Saturday 20 February 2010 at 2:20 am UCCM Anishnaabe Police along with officers from the Manitoulin OPP responded to a disturbance located at 13 Park Street, M’Chigeeng First Nation. An altercation had taken place among a group of young men. Officers arrived at the scene and located an 18 year old man with serious injuries; he later died at the Mindemoya hospital.

The victim in this homicide has been identified as Shane BEBONING age 18 of the M’Chigeeng First Nation. Cause of death has not been determined at this time pending results of a post mortem examination in Sudbury on Monday 22 Feb 2010.

As a result of the investigation at this stage three Manitoulin men have been charged in relation to this incident. Charged are the following persons,

1.Wayne MIGWANS Age 21 of the M’Chigeeng First Nation, Ontario with one count of First Degree Murder
2.Marlon MIGWANS Age 20 of the M’Chigeeng First Nation, Ontario with one count of First Degree Murder
3.Michael MIGWANS Age 18 of the M’Chigeeng First Nation, Ontario with one count of First Degree Murder

These three accused have been remanded in custody and will be appearing on Monday 22 Feb 2010 at 1:00pm at the Gore Bay Provincial Court. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is ongoing.

The investigation is being conducted under the direction of Detective Inspector Ken Leppert of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch with members of the UCCM Anishnaabe Police, Manitoulin OPP officers and detectives from the OPP Northeast Regional Crime Unit. Members of the OPP Forensic Identification Unit are also on scene to assist with this investigation.

Four Manitoulin men have been arrested in relation to this incident. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is ongoing. Names are not being released at this time.
