The North Bay Police Service would like to caution the general public in regards to recent fraud attempts within our communities of North Bay and Callander.

One of these fraud attempts involves e mails to friends of a known person explaining that this person is in another country and has fallen on hard times or has been robbed. Further that they need money to pay recent bills in order to return home and that this money will be repaid. The fraudster then wants money to be wired to a specific location in that foreign country.

Our Service is aware that at these times the actual person whose name was on the e mail is still in this country and does not have any such problems.

Another scam is that a relative, usually a grandchild is in another location and has run into problems with the law necessitating bail money. A phone call is made to the senior and the request is made to send this “Bail Money” to a designated person so that the relative can get out of jail.

Our Service is cautioning the public to be wary of anyone calling or sending any e mail requesting monies. Further that these frauds are generally made from another country of out of town location making the investigation even more difficult to trace or solve. If this occurs we are recommending that no money be sent and that your local police service be contacted immediately.
