Every student loves a good road trip and Nipissing University is banking on that maxim in a new marketing initiative unveiled today, the Road Trip Challenge, located at www.roadtripchallenge.ca.

In an effort to raise Nipissing's profile among high school students, the university has created a fun and engaging web site that allows students to go on a virtual road trip to the North Bay campus and invite their friends along for the ride.

Students can use the Road Trip Challenge site to invite their friends to go on an actual road trip to Nipissing University for the annual open house taking place March 15, 17 and 19. Each invitation counts as a ballot into a draw for an Apple MacBook. By using the Message Maker tool, students can create tailor-made, animated, invitations for their friends that speak directly to them and their particular interests. An Apple MacBook prize draw will take place each day of the open house.

Other features of the site include the Ask a Student section where students can post questions to actual students. The Alternate Road Trip allows students the chance to venture off the main highway for a side trip to an interesting spot, like the lake in Algonquin Park where the mysterious death of Tom Thomson occurred, or the location of the first spike in Sir John A. MacDonald's railroad. The Photo Gallery highlights all three Nipissing campuses, the residences and the city of North Bay.

“Our students tell us that as soon as they had set foot on campus, they knew Nipissing was the university for them. We hope the Road Trip Challenge will bring more students here to have that same experience,” said Lisa Drinkwalter, manager of integrated marketing communications at Nipissing.

“There is a misconception that North Bay is far away from the major city centres and by tapping into the adventure of a road trip, we hope to chip away at that false impression.”
