NNDSB hosting parent information sessions

The Near North District School Board is pleased to host a series of Parent Information Sessions across the district during the month of February.

The focus of these sessions is to introduce parents to the new and exciting technology being used in their child’s classroom, and to help them understand how they can support their child’s education from home.

A variety of topics will be coved in the one hour sessions, including:

Ontario Educational Resource Bank (OERB): The OERB is an online repository that houses over 18000 resources for all subjects from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The resources are easy to search by grade, subject and expectation so that parents can help their children to succeed.

SMART Boards: A SMART Board is a large interactive whiteboard that uses touch technology to detect user input – e.g. scrolling, right mouse-click. The Near North District School Board has many SMART Boards in classrooms that are being used in various subject areas. Come and see how they are being implemented in the curriculum for our students.

Math Homework Help Website for Grades 7 – 10: Homework Help is website for Near North District School Board students in grades 7 through 10. Students simply log on to Homework Help at homeworkhelp.ilc.org Sunday to Thursday between the hours of 5:30 – 9:30 p.m., and using an interactive chat room, students can obtain personalized tutoring from a certified Ontario math teacher. The website also has resources for math that are available anytime, day or night.

Virtual Library: The Near North District School Board has a 7 step research model that begins at Kindergarten and continues on right through to grade 12. It helps students organize the proper procedure for research by beginning with the most reliable source of encyclopaedias and following through to the most open source searching on search engines.

Tuesday, February 9, 7:00p.m. at Widdifield S.S.
Thursday, February 11, 7:00p.m. at West Ferris S.S.
Thursday February 18, 7:00p.m. Parry Sound H.S.
Tuesday, February 23, 7:00p.m. at Almaguin Highlands S.S
