Students and staff from across the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board are doing what they can to help those affected by the Haiti earthquake.

The Student Faith Ambassadors of Our Lady of Sorrows School and teacher Caroline Desormier (photo - above) reached out to their school community with a Help Haiti Collection Campaign by sending out letters to parents, crafting a compassion banner and making collection cans available in each classroom.

Thanks to Grade 9 students Kim Busch, Heather Daly and Alex
Coyne (photo in gallery) St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School students and staff collectively donated over $2,500 to the Haiti cause. Just before the earthquake, the girls’ class had been raising money for a class party. “When we heard about the disaster, we decided that we would suggest that the money be donated to the people of Haiti instead,” said Busch. “The Haiti cause is more important than a class doughnut party.” The girls, with the help of other schoolmates, circulated the collection can throughout the school and raised more than they expected.

The students of Mrs. Falconi’s Grade ¾ class are collecting
pennies for Haiti which will be donated through the Red Cross. Students, staff and parents will be rolling the
pennies in the cafeteria on Thursday, January 29, starting at 1:40 p.m.

St. Francis School is currently collecting gently used shoes from the school and local community for Haiti
residents. The school is hosting a Silly Hat Day on Friday, January 22 in which students and staff will donate
a dollar to participate.

Corpus Christi School hosted a chili lunch fundraiser this week and will continue accept donations during Hat
Day for Haiti this Friday, January 22.

The Nipissing-Parry Sound CDSB Administration Office, John XXIII, Our Lady of Fatima and other schools are fundraising all week and will announce their donations in the near future.
