On Saturday, January 16, 2010, the F.I.R.S.T. Lego League robotics team T.N.T. Under Pressure from North Bay accepted the Judges Award at the F.I.R.S.T. Lego League Robotics Ontario Provincial Championship Tournament held at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) in Oshawa, Ontario. Forty-one (41) teams from around Ontario participated in this one-day provincial competition. Sixteen (16) awards were given out to recognize excellence in robot performance, design, research, and teamwork.

T.N.T. Under Pressure advanced to this tournament from the Northern Ontario Regional Tournament held on November 21, 2009 at Dynamic Earth in Sudbury. T.N.T. Under Pressure is a team of six children, aged 9 to 11, from various North Bay schools including Vincent Massey P.S., WJ Fricker P.S., King George P.S., and Ecole St. Paul. They spent the last four months designing, building, and programming a fully autonomous robot made of Lego to complete the missions set out in the challenge. They also researched a topic related to the challenge theme and made a presentation to the judges. The challenge theme for 2009 was Smart Move – Transportation. The children chose road construction as their research topic and would like to thank City Hall and Ray Marshall for taking the time to share some information with them.

FLL Robotics is a fun, hands-on way for young people to learn about Science and Technology and to raise their awareness of some of the challenges faced by people and communities around the world. The program also stresses some important core values that teach children to work together as a team to problem solve and it encourages them to share their knowledge with others.
