Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord is now accepting suggestions for the name of its New Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 Catholic French-language elementary school that is being constructed on the old École Écho-Jeunesse site in Sturgeon Falls. The new school will accommodate the students from the École St-Joseph school zone. Construction is going well and the school is expected to open in September 2010.

The list of names received will be examined by a committee made up of two members of school council, two staff members, two parents, four students, a member of the clergy, the school principal, and a representative of the board’s administration. In keeping with board policy, the members of this committee will choose three names which will then be presented to the school community for purposes of consultation. The members of Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord are responsible for the final choice which must be ratified by a resolution of the Board.

We want the name of the school to represent not only Catholic French-language education but also the spirit of the community which it serves. This is why we are asking for suggestions and seeking feedback from the community before making a decision”, stated Cynthia Roveda, Director of Education for Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord. “The community’s enthusiasm for this project has been evident from the start and we are open to any suggestion that reflects both the unique mission of Catholic French-language schools and the vitality of the community of Sturgeon Falls”, she added.

Those who would like to propose a name for the new school must submit it on the official form which is available at the École St-Joseph school office, Paroisse Sacré-Coeur in Sturgeon Falls, Paroisse Ste-Thérèse d’Avila in Cache Bay, Paroisse Notre-Dame de la Paix in Crystal Falls, Paroisse Notre-Dame-des-Victoires in Field and on the board website at www.franco-nord.edu.on.ca. Submissions must be received by the principal of École St-Joseph before February 2.
