“They wrote to most cities throughout Canada, and said ‘Why should you be one of the cities on the Monopoly game’,” Mayor Vic Fedeli said of Hasbro Games.

“We wrote a very compelling letter back to them.”

Fedeli said in his letter to the game company, he included photos of several North Bay Landmarks; which include the Gateway Arch, Chief Commanda II and the Dionne Quintuplets museum.

“We just found out that North Bay will indeed be one of the 65 cities from across the country that did make the shortlist,” Fedeli said.

“It was very exciting to make that first hurdle.”

Mayor Fedeli now urges everyone in the city to log on to www.monopolyvote.ca and vote as many times as possible for North Bay.

“It’s kind of a neat thing for the City,” Fedeli said of the contest.

“It’s a no-cost, community spirit gets you to the end of the game,”

There are two other Northern Ontario cities, which made the top 65, and Fedeli said North Bay can’t afford to lose to them.

“Now there’s going to be a great rivalry,” Fedeli said as he chuckled.

“We sure as heck can’t let Sudbury or Sault Ste. Marie beat us.”

Fedeli is so concerned about beating our neighbours to the west, that he’s taken advantage of a few loopholes.

“I have three different email addresses,” Fedeli said. “I’ve used all three of them to vote every day, and we’re going to pull out all the stops to make sure North Bay is on the board.”

North Bay is currently in 31st place according to www.monopolyvote.ca, but the top 24 cities secure a spot on the board. Fedeli said he’d like to be higher than 24th

“I’d love to see us in the top 10, to be safe,”
