The Nipissing Branch of the Canadian International Council is pleased to welcome Commander Alex Grant of the Canadian Navy who will be speaking about Canada’s Arctic Defense Policy.

The talk takes place on Monday, January 18, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the North Bay Public Library at 271 Worthington St. East. It is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome!

Commander Grant has been with the Canadian Forces since 1981. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Oceanography and an MSc in Oceanography and Acoustics from Royal Roads Military College, and a Diploma in National Security, Strategy and Policy, and Joint Military Operations from the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island. He has served as Executive Officer on the HMCS Athabaskan, and as Deputy Chief of Staff Surface Operations at Maritime Forces Atlantic Headquarters. In February 2008 Commander Grant took command of the frigate HMCS Toronto. During his tenure in command he deployed twice to the Canadian Arctic as part of OPERATION NANOOK.
