Powassan man charged with assault to resist arrest

During the past weekend officers with our Service stopped 3 impaired drivers within our area.

Meanwhile, on the 10th of Jan. during the early morning hours, officers with the North Bay Police Service stopped a vehicle and demanded that the driver produce samples of his breath. During this time period a female passenger within the vehicle made a complaint to the officers and this complaint was confirmed with visual evidence.

Other officers arrived to back up the initial officers and the man was arrested. At this point he began fighting with all of the officers and then ran away. A short distance later he allegedly turned and took a fighting stance with his pursuers. At this point the man was struck with a conducted energy device however he continued fighting.

Eventually he was subdued and taken into custody.

Steven SHULTZ 33 years old of Chiswick Line in Powassan is charged with 4 counts of Assault to Resist Arrest and remains in custody for a bail hearing. The investigation continues.
