The Young Community Leaders Project (YCL) is moving forward in North Bay aiming to bring the enthusiasm, intelligence and perspectives of young people to the forefront of building strong and sustainable communities.

In January, The Young Community Leaders Project will be offering two FREE courses for high school-aged youth from North Bay and surrounding area. These are both skills development courses called “Cook like a Champ,” and “Backwoods Adventure.” Youth who take the “Cook like a Champ” course will be able to listen to music, watch hilarious cooking videos and hang out with friends while they learn some tricks in the kitchen. Participants will learn a new recipe and cook something different each week as well as learn to plan healthy and affordable meals for themselves. “Cook like a Champ” will be taking place at Caldwell-Ellam (398 Carruthers Street), starting on Thursday, January 7th, 2010 from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. The other course, “Backwoods Adventure,” will meet once weekly starting Wednesday, January 6th, 2010 at the North Bay YMCA training room from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. and will include day and overnight trips on weekends. Guest speakers and videos will compliment instruction on a practice using equipment, building shelters, performing first aid and planning outdoor meals. In both courses, successful participants will be rewarded with a badge and the possibility for a course of higher difficulty. For more information on “Cook like a Champ,” and Backwoods Adventure,” visit www.icacan.ca/YCL or search for either one on facebook.
